IDAThe Interaction Design Area (IDA) of the Communication Science Department, University of Siena is engaged in research concerning information technologies (IT) for communication, learning and complex systems. The research is oriented to the design, development and evaluation of digital technologies in different contexts, from leisure to work, from tools to services. The research group includes competencies in Psychology, Interaction Design, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Multimedia design, Web design, Robotics.

IDA has a long track record of interdisciplinary work both in relation to academic disciplines and in relation to industry. The group has extensive experience in organizing and coordinating interdisciplinary projects on a national scale as well as on a European level. IDA has been at the forefront of research within interaction design for the last 15 years and has participated in a range of national and international projects. It has a long experience in participatory design and user-centred investigation. One of the areas of research specialism is the ethnographic study of social practice, to inform the design of information systems.

The group also specialise in participatory design and evaluation with end users, and in interdisciplinary theory for information system design. Related research in collaborative and ambient technologies is also carried out by the research group.
